You are called, but what has happened? You killed an Egyptian and buried him in the sand. You have had to escape to Midian. Your ego lies buried in the sand with that Egyptian!
The main purpose of Midian is to lose our inbuilt grandiosity and to become someone that God can actually use. When Moses was young and full of zeal and trying to achieve justice by his own hand, God couldn’t actually use him. God needed to make Moses into someone He could use.
Moses tried to DO something about the slavery and abuse of the Hebrews, but God wanted Moses to BE somebody.
Ministry is not about DOING something; it is about BEING somebody.
Midian made Moses into a shepherd; someone who genuinely cared and had compassion for the sheep that he was delegated to look after.
When we go into the desert of mundane boredom, we will find that authentic compassion eventually comes forth - without the taint of any agenda for our own aggrandisement.
Midian was required for Moses to withdraw from his addiction to power.
There is no such a thing as an anointing of power alone. Power without love is actually an ‘occult’ power from another spirit. Moses had to learn the gentle art of shepherd-kingship. True power flows down the pathway of compassion (seen supremely in the life and ministry of Jesus).
God does not liberate his people by power alone. He is not the God of ‘might and power,’ He is the God of ‘Spirit.’ (Zechariah 4:6).
The disciples wanted to call down fire from heaven upon a village who rejected Jesus but Jesus said to them, “You do not know what kind of Spirit you belong to.” (Luke 9:55). The spirit that wants to call down fire upon those who reject Jesus is not the Spirit of the Father. The spiritual power of the Father flows through the Spirit of Love.
Yes, Moses did see mighty signs and wonders but they were the acts of God! God moves in signs and wonders through our weakness, not our strength. The weaker you feel the closer you are to the manifestation of the supernatural power of God.
As our ego dies, our true self comes forth, the self that is deeply loved, the self that can be empowered by the Spirit of God.
